Waddecar Camps – 2003

During 2003 we went to Waddecar Scout Camp  (http://www.westlancashirescouts.org.uk/camps/waddecar.htm) 3 times.

March Trip

On the first trip during March of 2003 we stayed in one of the huts, as it was still cold and frosty at night.

During the weekend we pursued a number of activities:

Fire Making – one of our favourite activities apart from the search for suitable wood – although that was solved when our Assistant Scout Leader Paul leant on a tree like Desperate Dan and it fell over – all that remained was to chop it into suitable logs for burning. Although Sam did kindly provide his trainers for the fire.

Backwoods Cooking – the preparation and cooking of a whole fish (including guts, brain, and eyes) over an open fire and then to eat it for supper. The secret is to wrap it in newspaper and soak it just enough so that it doesn’t burn while you cook it for twenty minutes – and then make sure you wash all the blood and guts out of your knife otherwise it doesn’t half smell the following week.

*   Let me check..

*   I feel a bit sick

Hunt The Tuck-Thief – our tuck was stolen and hidden in the woods by Paul II in an attempt to get us to go further into the woods. But we caught him and dealt with him!

The Assault Course – we all had timed goes on the assault course and then a timed, team run with Paul and Paul II joining in.

See our record-breaking team in action: -

*         Storming over the bridge while leaving Paul to throw up

*               Leaping up the 6ft wall

*               If only I was that bit taller

*         Approaching the net

June Trip

This occasion was spent under canvas and on the Saturday we had a whole day of planned activities: -

Archery

Shooting

Abseiling

Orienteering

See the assorted picture from those activities: -

*         Scouts shoot high

*         Wrong direction boy!

*        Home on the range

*               Over the edge at 50 ft

*               Smile for the camera

*               The easy bit

We also built a tower using Pioneering Poles and one of our new Scouts, Connah was invested at the top by Paul the Assistant Scout Leader.

*               The tower

*   The investiture

*               Hanging around 'n' looking cool

July Trip

Just a gentle wind-down just as school broke up – a chance to forget about SATS and going on to senior school and chill-out (literally) in the river. We were also joined by our Beaver pack on the Saturday.

*   Tarzan gets the rope too long

*   Even time for baptisms
