The major event of the year at Bispham Hall Scout Camp (http://www.bisphamhall.org.uk/) is the famous annual chariot
race. This takes place the first weekend in October and is attended by Scouts
from all over the
Teams of 5 or 6 compete to manoeuvre their chariot around an obstacle/ assault course and the fastest team wins. There are also various prizes in other categories such as ‘Chariot Of Chariots’ for the best prepared and ‘Best Newcomer’.

Last year (2002) was our first time there and we only
watched the races, however this time we were back with a vengeance.
The team (David, Matthew, James, Jordan and Alex) did extremely well to finish the course without too many problems in a respectable time of 11:17 (that’s 11 minutes 17 seconds), just missing the cut for the second round of racing – although when they got up on Sunday morning to ground frost and ice I don’t think they were too bothered.

The team members were all presented with a badge that will be worn with pride: -
The pictures below show our team and their progress around the course including the dreaded water obstacle.
Into the
maze.....and David makes his point to Paul
Steady
there...don't forget it's only 110cm wide next year
Into the water -
will it float?
And after all that effort we couldn’t bring ourselves to burn the chariot (or Paul II wouldn’t let us), so we decided to keep it safe for next year when we are planning on entering at least two teams.
