JOTA is an annual event in which
about 500,000 Scouts and Guides all over the world make contact with each other
by means of amateur radio. This year the event took place over the weekend of
18th – 19th October, and we made a real party of it.
It is a real Jamboree during
which Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared, thus
contributing to the world brotherhood of Scouting. This year units operated for
48 hours, from Saturday 00.00 h until Sunday 24.00 h local time. It is for
members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), and also for
members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

We joined a local amateur radio
club, West Manchester Radio Club (www.wmrc.org.uk) for the weekend, and slept
out over the weekend at the scout hut. During the day cubs, beavers, guides and
brownies joined us as we talked to other scout units across the country and
even the world. See the pictures below of us at work and play.

For some of us this was the
culmination of a summer of radio activities that saw us get our Radio
Communicator badge.

These were presented to us by
the President of West Manchester Radio Club, along with our very own group call
sign.
